Brian:
I have a submate, Joseph P. Dooley, TM1 (at the time) who was part of the crew who delivered the USS DACE (SS-247) to the
MMI and helped train her new crew. I just contacted him and he
states that only MK14 Mod 3A torpedoes, using the MK 16 Mod 6 warheads were aboard. They never had any "sterilization" feature.
They may not have been the latest "marks", but they were the same as what we were carrying on the USS PIPER (SS-409) at
the same time.
During WWII, the Japanese "captured" hundreds of U.S. torpedoes in the Philippines, but their torpedoes were the best and they didn't need any ideas from the inferior U.S. types.
I'm not sure about the German torpedoes having a sterilization feature, but maybe other knowledgeable contributors to this
forum may have an answer.
Have a nice day,
ROBERT M.
