While in captivity Schaeffer was actually questioned by Americans who thought he had dropped off top Nazi officals at a secret base in the Antarctica. He commented that he found this very funny and foolish of the US military intelligence officers to believe this. His book is very interesting and insightful of a U-boat operating in 1944/45.
