they were built in sections and the nearly finished parts assembled on the slip, something like producing cars. In the USA they did nearly the same with the Liberty ships.
Strategical bombing by the Allied Air Forces was quite ineffective because many \"cottage factories\" were doing the most labour intensive parts and they could not hit them all. War production was seriously affected only by the tactical bombing of the railways and trains. This really disrupted the German war industry. (quoted from W.Spate, “Top secret birdâ€)
