I have long accepted the CAP reports on their WWII involvement concerning U-boats. It is taught as fact even today. The u-boat information does make one question the details. As many things back then are hard to prove or disprove, this is yet another instance.
Regardless, I have seen some people beating up CAP for it's u-boat claims and it upsets me that CAP is all but being called liers. I've been involved in CAP for nearly 30 years as well as my parents before me and now my children. People need to show more respect for what CAP managed to accomplish.
Think about it. CAP was formed on Dec 1, 1941. Pearl Harbor happened Dec 7, 1941. CAP was called to duty on Dec 8, 1941. When have you ever heard of a civilian organization like this called to war? It's like telling the boy scouts to pick up a gun and go fight in the war.
CAP lost a lot of good people and aircraft during WWII. Some people neglect to remember that fact. There is a list of names and dates of when these people made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. While almost nobody ever seems to talk about their role and influence in the war, they are ready to call them liers.
Please remember that CAP has shed its share of blood to help keep this country safe and free regardless of any inaccuracies that may arise.
