<HTML>Hi James,
I guess that the questions are about our opinions about these characters in the film? If that is the case, hm lets see:
1)I was most impressed by the commander (of course),
2)Of the supporting characters, Jochan (the \"phantom\"), the 2nd WO, and Flecker (engine room mate),
3)The Chief? Well, a very cautious mechanic & officer, a very vital and important crew member,
4)Hm,Dufte, a fine example of the majority of the German sailors who served on U-boats during WWII. Young in age but somehow grown up in a rather hasty way because of the sircumstances, his duties, the constant danger and the risk to die at any time, these things can make a joungster turn out to be a man, on the one hand \"innocents striken from their mama\'s skirts\" and on the other \"these kids, these beautifull young kids - you have to have good men, good men all of them\".
I hope this covers your question,
Best regards,
