<HTML>Hi ya,
Hmm, I appreciate this is long after the event of this thread, however, I have to say, I see this too, (Oh I am talking about Kriechbaum) but, I\'d figured always that no, it wasn\'t his humanity that showed through, rather it was his knowing that the captain wouldn\'t be so enthusiastic when it came to \'their death\' which is the thread through the film.
Indeed, the line the captain says \"come on then, come on\" in a depth charge scene lets us know that really he knows their time is nearly up, and again, this is echoed as they try the Gilbraltar breakthrough where the captain and Kriechbaum are the only two on the bridge. The Captain hums \'the death march\' under his breath, and Kriechbaum looks distainfully over his shoulder.
I write only for discussion, and I hadn\'t seen it your way.
Its been a while since I have watched it, maybe I should view again!
There isn\'t a right or wrong in this....
My sincerest regards
Alex
