Hi Thomas:

One of the best modelers that I know of is Tony Greenland. Try his book "Tony Greenland's Panzer Modelling Masterclass" ISBN 1859150675. You can adapt his weathering techiques to weathering your U-boat. Also "Fine Scale Modeling" magazine has articles every month on model building.
