Hi Yall:
Back in June I talked to Dan Kachur of DK Models. He said that
he is going to have a limited production run of his 1/48th scale Type-
VIIC U-boat. This kit will be made of epoxy resin fiberglass hull and
conning tower. Also encluded are carbon fiber reinforced polyurethane
resin casted rudders, fwd.& aft. hydroplanes, propeller shaft support
struts, periscope shears, UZO, deck guns, and other sundry. You will
need Jeffrey LaRue photoetch decks available from Jeffrey LaRue, as
DK Models will not be supplying the cast resin deck. This is a kit
for advanced modellers and there are no instructions. The David
Merriman's WTC-3 Mod 2 water tight cylinder is made to go in this kit
and is available from D&E Miniatures. The price of this kit is
$400.00 usd. and will be available on a first come-first served
basis. The production run (5-10 models)will start in August, so get
you name on the list early. DK Models has no computer (the man is too
busy), so you must contact Dan Kachur at Phone: (604) 270-7515 in
Richmond Canada.
I have one of these kits and it is very accurate, but is for advanced modellers. I've been building models, mostly aircraft, for 35 years. I have been working on mine since February, every weekend. It is very easy to get hundreds of man-hours into one of these exact scale U-boats. But, when you are finished you will have something that very few folks have, a Type-VIIc U-boat that you can go on patrol with at your local pond and then bring her home for your mantle piece.
Good Luck and Good Hunting,
