Presumably any royalties would be due to the designers of the original boats.
As an aside, there was a newspaper article stating that the German Government is seeking compensation from the British ditto, over the copyright infringement on the Jerry can. It seems that the British copied this useful item from captured examples in the Western Desert and they went into mass production in time for D Day etc. There being a war on, nobody gave any thought to copyright infringement - the thought of paying royalties to the enemy is a bizarre one, now however, the Bundestag is after the readies. Where it will end up is anyones guess.
P S There was a resin kit of U 47 available, whish was of the right proportions for a mantlepiece.
