Type V11b Decking

I have looked at dozens of models and recently examined a reasonably good model of U-99. Most have grey decking and a lot have been finished to simulate metal. I have always believed the bow and stern section were metal but that most of the area in between was made up of wooden gratings, is this the case? A friend recently sent me photographs of a late model Type V11 and it was beautifully finished with a natural coloured wooden decking. Can someone clarify this point?
