Screw and tower color for Type II's?

Got hold of two little Polish 1/400 scale models: Type IIA and Type IID U-Boats. Everything going pretty well, except as I started work on the propellers I realized I have no idea what they were made of, or what color they are suppose to be. Brass maybe? Any ideas?
Also, I'm doing the Type IIA as either U-1 or U-2 pre-war. I've got some decent documentation that suggests the conning tower was painted white and the hull the traditional light grey upper/ dark grey bottom combination. My question is: does anyone know if the DECK was white too, or just the conning tower. My references only show the conning tower straight on- so I can't see the deck. I've seen some sketches which show wood color decks, but I question that- even those were mostly painted- yes?
Thanks for any help, and salute!
