Hi Peter,
The lead series (U167-170) launched at Seebeck Yard, Bremerhaven during the first half of '42 most certainly were initially equipped with tower 1. Same goes for the initial batch (U183-194) built at Deschimag AG Weser, Bremen abt the same time.
U193 was the the first of the se above to get tower changed in the summer '43. Rgds, RB
