Who is this captain???

Hi guys,

Several weeks ago I bought a U-boat captian from verlinden
in a local modelshop store here in the Netherlands and
the model looks very great.
But now I have one question; who is this captian?????????
As you can see on his cap there is a small elephant,and so far
as I know not(or none)much captians wear this elephant.
