Type IX C / IX C40 Hull diferences

Since the announcement of the release of Revell's U-505 I have been trying to figure out the external differences between the 2 hulls. According to this site there is a minor change in size (16cm in length, 10cm in beam). In 1/72 that equates to approxinately 2.2mm and 1.4mm, in Revells 1/144 fleet I have found that their hulls are as much as 2mm out in length anyway. Was the length difference in a specific point on the hull or spread across the whole length. Or are these figures allied measured errors.
Bottom line is: could the Revell IX C hull be used as a IX C40?
