Wind gen used to charge uboat batteries?

I found a reference (below) that stated,
"During the Second World War, small wind generators were used on German U-boats to recharge submarine batteries as a fuel-conserving measure."
Given the capacity of the uboat's battery bank, it would have had to been a good sized wind generator to be able to charge in a reasonable amount of time. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?
