Are you by any chance quoting from an English translation of Roessler's "Geschichte des Deutschen U-boot Baus". If you are, then someone made a typo on the length of the VII C/42 which was overall 1.53 meters longer than the VII C (68.7 m vs. 67.1 m). The pressure hull was also increased in diameter from 4.7 m to 5.0 m to compensate for the extra weight of the hull.

None were ever built because by the time a design was finally agreed, everything was stopped in favor of the Type XXI project. Almost a year was wasted in arguing the finer points of the design. The original specification was proposed in the fall of 1941 and the final version was not agreed until the spring of 1943. The orders were placed on Feb. 22, 1943, but everything was stopped on 24 July 1943.
