Communication between the bridge and engine room was done mostly by engine telegraph or by a voice tube on the starboard side of the engine room, or if all else failed relayed voice commands were possible. On the surface the bridge relayed rudder commands to the conning tower by voice tube or yelling down the hatch. The control room was by voice tube ,engine telegraph ( dive ) or yelling down the hatch.
