RE: Russian sub shapes,why so funky?

There are always plentiful arrays of apologists for anything the former soviets do wrong.
This is a good thing, for in the field of submarine technology the Russians have great need of such Samaritans.*

I have the greatest respect for Russian submariners for they have pushed the envelope far wider than their American counterparts.

However, if the debate becomes an issue of quality and effectiveness of Russian submarines versus American submarines, well it will be a short debate.

If it comes to combat operations between the two, it will be a short day.

I greatly admire Russian science, innovation and design. Unfortunately all three are crippled by the vestiges of a communist economic culture.

This is the reason that even the very best Russian submarines (Akula) are shoddy pieces of work.



*Same for Aerospace.
