Hi Andrew,
If they are both at periscope depth, having loacated each other roughly by sound, firing blindly hit probability would be poor. After seeing each other's scope, Hit probability would increase dramatically, - however, then it is not a blind shot anymore.
By the way: "historical veracity" mentioned in conjunction of the flick U571 is an oximoron. :-) RB
