John R.,
Even when in the Army in 1951-1952 (19 months), I was fortunate that the tent cities always had the the triple SH..... facilities - showers, shaving sinks and sh...(latrines). The only time we were without was on manuevers (4 days) and moving (5 days) an entire AAA battalion (with equipment - 16 mobile 90mm guns and their catepillar tractors, 5 SCR-584 radar vans, gun control computer (tube type) trailers plus mucho trucks, jeeps, etc. from Ft. Stewart, Georgia to Ft. Dix, NJ in January, 1952. Only personnel required to drive or provide communications (me) were on the motor convoy. While the balance of the battalion went north by train (18 hours) we stopped each night at different army bases; ie, Fts. Jackson, Bragg, Lee and Meade. Job johnies had been provided and handwashing/shaving (helmetfulls) of warm water were available. Needless to say, at the end of the fifth day at Ft. Dix the showers were busy! A sub-marine tour of duty must have been two magnitudes (x 100) worse! WWWWOOOOOOWWWWW! or:
