Yes Jay,
with a capital T and 1 f. Normally a Tiefenmesser is an Echosounder measuring distance from keel to seabottom. Uboats had one of those as well.
Ofc, the one you mean actually is a pressure gauge, measuring water pressure on the hull and indicating distance to the surface rather than the bottom. Rgds, RB
