Johannes,

I can\'t say for certain, but I suspect the doors lead to the AA gunner positions. The Type XXI had two turrets with dual 20mm cannon each and were \"remotely\" controlled. I haven\'t been able to dig up any details about the exact workings of the turrets and where the operators were positioned, but I suspect the doors were at least one way to get to them.
