So, in a nutshell...it seems that most U-Boats were extremely vulnerable to the new RAF/RAAF tactics in the Med at that period of the war: a swamp which divided up the sea into search zones; a detection which resulted in other aircraft and allied warships being called in; an initial attack with torpedo or depth charges at very low level in the dark using advanced aircraft-mounted radar systems.

Whilst undoubtedly having some advantages, Schnorkel, from what I gather, was highly over-rated and was detested by many U-Boat crews....

As far as the technological battle was concerned, it seems the Germans were losing out badly by 44/45. Under the sea, the odds were stacked against them.

I am new to all this.

Am I starting to talk out of my bottom? Or am I right?
