HMCS Rimouski - special silhouette-reducing lights

In "Operation Kiebitz" (about the attempt to retrieve POWs from Canada via U-boat) the author states that HMCS Rimouski had a system of lights that made it invisible to the enemy, allowing it to appear like a specter in the night and reducing its real dimensions. Using these lights Rimouski could pass for a fishing boat. Original French text from the book appears below.

Has anyone heard of this special system? If so, did other ships besides Rimouski have it?

Thanks in advance for all info.

"HMCS Rimouski [...]
- Operation Kiebitz, p49.
