Hi, Woody!
Away back in 1970, when I joined the South African Navy's Daphne Submarines we had a primitive computer inside each torpedo. With the advances in computer technology today you can imagine what can be done. For instance, the acoustic "signatures" of most nuclear subs, worldwide, are known and have been recorded, so someone could set a torpedo to listen for a certain signature, then just fire and forget, leaving the area to go and fulfil some other mission.
All the best,
Garth
