Soup Pot

I ran across an electric pot at a flee market. It was a stainless pot of about 5 gallons capacity. It sat on an electric hotplate that came up and wrapped around the bottom of the pot about 6 inches. It was all built into one unit and you pluged it in to 110vac. It was rather old and the only descripition I could get was a " soup pot". Was this anything like the pots that are mentioned as being in a U boat galley? Did U boats use AC or DC power? Did American subs have anything like a "soup pot? Thanks in advance.
