Some technical questions regarding Type XXI sonar

Hi gang,

I'm writing a science-fiction(ish) short story with the Type XXI U-boat. I know it was (at the time) a revolutionary design, in many areas. But I've not been able to find much technical or detailed info about them.

At least one place I looked at said it had sonar, if so, how would it be used? Would it have behaved in the same manner as modern sonar?

What other technical 'marvels' did the Type XXI have that other U-boats didn't?
