I think the max angle on the dive plane indicator is 30 degrees , up or down positions . If you had any more than that while doing a crash dive the stern would raise out of the water and hang there untill the negative weight of the boat pulled it under and wasting a lot of critical dive time . I have several pictures of this , a u-boat with it's stern and tips of the props out of the water ( props splashing water all over and not doing much else ) and machine gun and cannon splashes all around the boat from attacking aircraft . 15 to 20 degrees is a good safe range to use in most cases .
