Great explanation........
The infamous MK 6 magnetic-influence exploder mechanism was modified after
WWII by "the establishment" in Newport, R.I. It finally got that "lemon" to do what
it did not do during the "Grand Conflict."
While attending "B" school in Newport in April, 1947, I saw a B&W 16mm film of a
MK 14 fired from a surfaced fleet boat at an AKA/APA with full watertight integrity.
The detonation occurred MOT and directly under the target's keel. The subsequent
shock waves broke the target in two causing the forward section to sink bow first
and the aft section to sink stern first. (Usually the ship sinks just the opposite way)
I'm not sure, but the Mod may have been 8 or possibly 10.
90% of most explosions go upwards and 10% downwards.
