u-boat periscopes for art work

I've posted this in the "Discussions" section, but will post here as well.
I'm an artist and I'm researching u-boat periscopes for a painting I'm going to do of a captain at the periscope of his u-boat.
I have pictures of the lower section of the scope w/eye piece and arm rests but not the section directly above it (that is always cut off in the pictures in books that I've seen). Would the shots of the periscope in the film "Das Boot" be accurate? I can access the film if they are accurate representations of a typical type VII.
Any help on this matter would be appreciated.
