Here is a site where you can find a picture of a Tauschenretter that is similar to the Draeger Apparatus.

Both devices were re-breathers that contained carbon filters that the wearer exhaled through. This allowed some of the air to be re-used, and made the
air cylinder last longer. Draeger is still in business and their site mentions a
"counter-lung." (Gegenlunge?) that was invented by them in 1939 and intended as a submarine escape device. A picture of that device lacks the full mask that
the Tauschenretter on the first web-site has.
