Enigma/Doenitz

If I remember right the number of possible combinations for encoding was very high and the Germans felt confident their messages could not be cracked. My question, given the horrid losses, prescient convoy course diversions, etc., was there no suspicion amongst Doenitz' staff at some point that the allies had cracked the enigma code? (I believe it wasn't until recently that this was admitted.)
