Hi Leif and Steve,
Leif, you remembered correctly. Doors were activated by turning handle of a long spindlescrew at fwd bulkhead next to ea. torp-tube. Once fully open, another spindlescrew opened outer tube doors. these were hinged on the inboard side opening the doors against the outer retracted fairing.
Faining and doors of rear tubes on type 7 (1) and 9 (2), were hinged on top, but otherwise operated in similar fashion as the fwd ones. Rgds, RB
