Dave Westwood wrote a affordable book called "U-boottyp VII Eine Darstellung in Wort und Bild". It is still for sale at Amazon.com. It shows a lot of drawings of the type VII from the A type till the C-41 and F-type, sail configurations, armament, torpedos, and machinerie.
The type IX historie is told in the also affordable book from Kohl and Niestle and is called " Von Orginal zum Modell" U-boottyp IX-c. Also available on Amazon.com.
Author Eberhard Rossler wrote the comprehensive book on the type XXI, called "U-boottyp XXI" and is very detailed on this subject (A kind of bible for this type). Also this book is available on Amazon.com.
