I have also never read of a u-boat (or submarine) being able to maintain a given depth without forward movement of at least 1 knot, expect in a simular account where off the coast of Africa (if my memory serves correctly) a u-boat 'sat' upon a denser layer. Now I have to find the information again.

I am also very interested to hear of any antidotal information one way or the other.
