Torpedo and torpedo tube dimensions

Hello all:
After reading through several reference books, I am confused as to these published dimensions. For example:
The T5 acoustic torpedo is listed as being 23.54' long (7.175m, 7.163m,
and 7.19m) in various publications.
The torpedo tubes are listed as being 23.5' (7.16m) long, except a small number designed by Prof. Walter at 16.4' (5.0m).
On page 9 of Michael Gannon's "BLACK MAY", he states: , "Diameter of the G7a was 53.46cm (21 inches)" I would assume that the G7e was the same diameter too. The tube diameter (bore) is generally listed as
53.3cm (21 inches).
How can a 7.19m long torpedo be loaded into a 7.16m long torpedo tube, and still use the "floating-piston" positioned behind it? Also, how
can a 53.46cm (21") diameter G7a torpedo be loaded into a 53.3cm (21") diameter bore torpedo tube? Or for that matter, load a 53.3cm dia. torpedo into a 53.3 dia. bore tube? And with all that grease to boot.......
It just doesn't fly!
Does any contributor have more accurate and consistent specifications
for torpedo tubes and torpedoes?
