Thanks for the answers. I remember reading somewhere that there was at least 2 or 3 ways to steer the boat. I remember seeing an old pic of an WWI era Uboat with a wheel on the bridge, whereas you see no such thing in WWII era boats. But...I read somewhere that the stationary compass on the bridge had a wheel on the same column as the stationary compass and could be turned for steering. The wheel laid down flat and not up-right. The problem is that I cannot remember if this setup was German boats or somebody else's.
