Hi Mark

His Seehund midget submarine is listed twice in Lawrence Patterson's book "Weapons of Desperation":

U-5035 was one of the 17 Seehund midgets of the 312. K-Flotilla that left in the afternoon on 1 January 1945 for operations off the Kwinte Bank. Only two returned from this mission and U-5035, crewed by Lt.z.S. Otto Stürzenberger and Bootsmaat Eugen Herold, was one of them.

U-5035 was lost on its next mission when she left Ijmuiden as one of five Seehund midgets to operate off Margate on 10 January 1945. The next day, this midget was attacked by aircraft off the Hoek van Holland and later depth charged by two British MGBs. Patterson does not mention the fate of the crew, but it seems due to the damages the crew abandoned U-5035 and was captured.

Best regards
Rainer
