Hi,
in fact the boarding party put back the cover of the sea strainer, which
was removed by control room crew before abandoning the vessel.
This sea strainer is located near the main bilge pump, so it is probably
in the suction line of the main bilge pump. This line could be connected
by means of manifold valves with sea water intake hull valve.
The other strainers are in the suction side of any other pump: trim pump
(in control room) or cooling water pumps for diesel engines (in diesel
engine room).
