sea conditions vs torpedo attack

hello gents !

do you have some informations up to which weather / waveheight a torpedo attack could be performed , further what maximum swells could be accepted to try using the deck gun ?

i understand high sea raised the risk of surface runners on the torpedos , and rolling waves over the foredeck surely excluded the use of the deck gun , but with the low freeboard of a submarine as well the limited depthsetting of the torpedos with contact detonators i would guess any attack was limited to only fair weather , making the uboats many times useless espacially in the north atlantic.

am i correct ? do you have reports about succesful attacks in heavy seas ?
