air conditioning system on u boats?

US subs operating in the Pacific had air conditioning system to cool down inside temperature, not only for the interior devices, but also for the crew.

Then, was there similar system (intended to offer cooler air condition for the crew and the devices) on u boats? It would have been like a literal hell near the equator if there were no such system :P
