Q tank

In the log of the UNSPARING the Q tanks valve was blown open by depth charges, with the sub been submerged to 325 feet. Does anyone knows max operational depth, cause in some cases i find that it was only about 180 feet, and in others 295 feet. The log says that it was kept in 325 feet by going half speed grouped up. What the grouped up means?
