Hailing device?

I seem to recall from somewhere that U-boat crews used a \"megaphone\" or some sort of voice-powered device to hail other ships. It was used from the bridge-- you know the scenario-- encounter with enemy tramp steamer or sailing vessel and the IWO uses this device to shout: \"Heave to! Don\'t use your W/T or we\'ll open fire!\" Any details on this piece of equipment? Maybe it only exists in movies?
