Four Pipers from Lend Lease

I've always heard that Lend Lease was the US ditching what we didn't want any more so we could send New construction down the ways. That is what I have gathered.

So what about those old First World War destroyers? How did they fare vs. the U Boats. I don't mean in losses and kills, but in speed, manouverability and equipment needed to keep the UK going.

Thoughts?
