american army on british ships

<HTML>I know that on occasions, american army personnal were on board HMS Wensleydale, a British destroyer, Pre D-Day. I presume they were on othewr ships as well. Can anyone else confirm this and provide information as to what they were doing?

I also believe that some may have been on HMS Charybdis when she sank. Can this be confirmed by anyone?</HTML>
