Hi, my father Sidney Swift was stoker 1st class on board the HMS Khartoum when this tragedy befell her.The story he told us has dulled a little over these years but I do remember him saying it happened a short while after the Khartoum had dropped depth charges whilst hunting U boats. His tale was brief and said that a torpedo had gone off and started a fire which rapidly spread.

Sid is sadly no longer with us, but I'd love to hear from anyone that may have known or served with him.
