My father was stationed in Ceylon from October 43 to Dec 45. Various names of bases appear on his service record ;- Lanka , Highflyer , Sober island, Mayina and the Wayland which was a fleet repair ship as I understand.
His name was Harold Bond and he was a Chief ERA. Sadly he passed away in 1965 when I was in my early teens and he never discussed his service . I've quite a few old photos now which have just come into my possesion since the death of my mother , one in particular is a group photo of some 32 officers and seamen. Not sure exactly where it was taken though.
Also have a letter from a Lt. (E) R.H.Straughan wishing him well on his return to UK.
