1) The destroyers had already left the scene, the Cruiser HMS Dorsetshire fired 2 torpedoes at the starboard side, 1 hit, then 1 more on the port side which hit.
2) Scuttling charges were used
3) The U 556 and U 74 were both ordered to save the war diary but neither were close enough and the diary was lost
