USS Guadalcanal

My father served on the USS Guadalcanal during WWll. I have a ring that was made aboard the ship by one of the crew mwmbers. It was made out of a quarter for my grandmother and has been passed down to me. I am sure mine is not the only one made and was wondering if anyone knew who made it or if anyone else still has one. Mine is fashioned to look like a belt and is done with a great deal of detail. Who ever this person is, they certainly had a lot of talent.
