Hello Brian,
HMS BERWICK sailed from Liverpool (where she had undergone a refit) for Scapa on 3/8/40 when on the morning of 4/8/40 she collided in fog with an unknown vessel in the North Channel. She was diverted to the Clyde for repairs by Fairfields which would take about 2 1/2 weeks. A court of enquiry found her commanding officer blameless.

You may find more precise information in her log at the National Archives (ADM53/111565).
Best regards,
Platon
